Kayako’s Photography Exhibition

I’m honored to be participating in an upcoming exhibition featuring Japanese American artists. The show includes throughtful references to the Japanese American interment during World War II - an important history that was often overlooked in schools and remains absent from some curricula today.

Kayako’s Photography Exhibition

I’m thrilled to share that a new set of my artworks is now installed @84yesler in Pioneer Square. One of the pieces received an award from @foodphotoaward in U.K. and was exhibited @mallgalleries near Trafalgar Square in London. I’m incredibly grateful to @84yesler for the opportunity to show my work.

The restaurant has an amazing vibe that truly elevates my artworks—open, welcoming, and infused with an urban Japanese feel. During @pioneersquare Art Walk on February 5th, Executive chef @binachristina will be preparing a special course menu in conjunction with the event. I highly recommend checking it out—the menu looks absolutely mouthwatering.

“In the Flow: Meditations on Water”

This photographic series is a quiet meditation on water in its many forms—from the invisible mist in the air to the endless reach of the sea. Through the lens, I traced water’s journey as it gathered in still ponds, drifted through humid air, and emerged from muddy depths as lotus blossoms.

At the heart of my work are two enduring symbols: the lotus flower and water in motion.

The lotus, rising through calm, murky waters, speaks to renewal, clarity, and inner strength. Its bloom—pure and open—emerges not in spite of the depths, but because of them. It reflects the quiet, transformative presence of water in its most contemplative state.

Water in motion—whether a flowing stream, falling rain, or the shifting tide—embodies release, change, and surrender. It moves with purpose yet without resistance, a reminder of the natural rhythms that shape all life.

Water, in all its forms, serves as a metaphor for the cycles we each pass through: stillness and motion, emergence and release, clarity and uncertainty. In capturing these moments, I sought not only to show what water looks like, but to evoke how it feels—fluid, grounding, and alive.

Each image offers an invitation to slow down and enter that feeling: to sit with a lotus and sense the stillness at its base, or to witness water’s subtle movements and reflect on our own.

This collection features photographs taken across various regions of Japan between 2007 and 2025 by Kayako Sareen.
